Wall Boarding, Plastering and Painting Works — Naval Terrace, Sheerness, Kent
Project Overview
British Builders attended a residential property on Naval Terrace in Sheerness, Kent, to carry out approved wall boarding, plastering and decorating works within an internal toilet and surrounding wall area.
The existing wall had visible damage, exposed backing, loose surface material and uneven sections where previous wall coverings and deteriorated finishes had been removed. The affected area required careful preparation before the final finish could be restored, as the surface was not suitable for direct decoration.
The works involved preparing the damaged wall, removing unsuitable sections where required, installing plasterboard to the designated area, and carrying out full plastering to create a smooth and stable surface. Due to the condition of the surrounding wall, additional adjoining sections were carefully removed to create a straight edge and allow the plaster finish to be completed properly.
The job required several visits to allow the plaster to dry and cure correctly, particularly around the edges, corners and board joints. Once fully dried, the repaired wall was prepared and decorated with two coats of emulsion paint, blended as closely as possible with the surrounding finish.
The completed works improved the overall condition, appearance and usability of the room, leaving the wall area safer, cleaner and more presentable.
Scope of Work
- Initial inspection of the damaged wall area and surrounding internal finishes
- Assessment of exposed backing, loose plaster, damaged wall covering and uneven surface sections
- Careful removal of damaged, loose or unsuitable wall material where required
- Preparation of the designated wall area prior to boarding and plastering works
- Additional preparation of adjoining sections to create a straight and stable edge for finishing
- Supply and installation of plasterboard to the affected wall area
- Making good around board joints, corners, skirting lines, window returns and adjoining wall finishes
- Full plastering and skimming of the repaired wall section to achieve a smooth surface
- Multiple return visits to allow the plaster to dry and cure correctly
- Preparation of the dried plastered surface prior to decorating
- Application of two coats of emulsion paint to the repaired wall area
- Blending of the decorated section with the surrounding wall finish as closely as possible
- Cleaning down of the work area and removal of associated waste materials
- Final check of the repaired wall, plaster finish, paint coverage and room presentation
Challenges & Solutions
- Damaged and uneven wall surface — The wall had exposed backing, loose material and uneven areas that could not be painted directly. The affected sections were prepared and stabilised before boarding and plastering were completed.
- Additional adjoining sections required attention — During the works, further surrounding areas needed to be removed to form a clean and straight edge. This helped avoid a patchy finish and allowed the repaired area to blend more neatly with the existing wall.
- Working around existing fittings — The wall was located close to the toilet, window area, skirting, corners and existing room features. The engineer worked carefully around these areas to keep the repair controlled and tidy.
- Drying time between stages — The plaster required proper curing time before decoration could be carried out. The job was therefore completed across several visits to protect the quality of the final finish.
- Matching the existing finish — The repaired section needed to sit naturally within the surrounding room. Two coats of emulsion paint were applied to improve coverage and create a cleaner, more consistent appearance.
- Maintaining a clean work area — The works involved stripping, boarding, plastering, drying and decorating. Waste and loose materials were removed, and the room was left tidy once the job was completed.
Final Outcome
The wall boarding, plastering and painting works were completed successfully. The damaged wall area was prepared, boarded and plastered to create a smoother, stronger and more stable finish.
Additional adjoining sections were addressed where required to ensure the repair had clean edges and did not leave an uneven or unfinished appearance. The plaster was allowed to dry properly before the decorating stage was completed.
Once dry, the wall was prepared and painted with two coats of emulsion, helping the repaired area blend with the surrounding finish as closely as possible. The room now appears cleaner, safer and more presentable.
All associated waste was removed, the work area was cleaned down, and the job was fully completed and approved on completion.
