These are the rules for using our website: what you may do with what is on it, what an account holder is responsible for, what we promise about the site itself, and what we do not. Ordering work is governed by the Customer Terms and Conditions instead.
1. Who we are and accepting these Terms
1.1 Who runs this site. british-builders.co.uk is operated by British Builders, a trading name of 24 British Builders Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 10615360, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ.
1.2 Using the site means accepting these Terms. By using the site you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
1.3 Other terms that apply. Our Privacy Notice explains how we handle personal information. Our Cookie Policy explains cookies. If you order services, the Customer Terms and Conditions apply to that contract, and if you hold a membership, section 14 of those Terms applies to it.
1.4 We may change these Terms. We may amend these Terms from time to time. The edition in force is the one published here, and each carries its date. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
2. The content on this site
2.1 Who owns it. All content on this site, including text, photographs, drawings, video, layout, design, logos and the British Builders name, is owned by us or used under licence, and is protected by copyright, trade mark and database rights.
2.2 What you may do. You may view the site, and print or download extracts for your own personal or internal business use, provided you do not alter them and you keep any copyright notice intact.
2.3 What you may not do. You may not copy, republish, sell, rent, sub-licence, adapt or commercially exploit any part of the site without our written permission.
- Systematically extract or reuse any part of the site, including by scraping, crawling beyond ordinary search engine indexing, or automated collection.
- Use our name, logo or accreditation marks in a way that suggests an association or endorsement that does not exist.
- Remove or obscure any copyright, trade mark or other proprietary notice.
2.4 Project photographs. Photographs of completed projects are of our own work. They are illustrative of the type and standard of work we carry out. They are not an offer, a specification or a promise that your project will be identical.
2.5 Asking permission. If you would like to use something from the site, please ask at enquiries@british-builders.co.uk. We are usually happy to say yes.
3. Accuracy of what you read here
3.1 We try to keep it right. We take care over the content, but the site is provided for general information. It is not professional advice about your property, and should not be relied on as the only basis for a decision.
3.2 Prices and availability. Prices, plan benefits and service areas shown on the site may change. The price and scope that bind us are those in a written quotation, or, for a membership, those shown at the moment you subscribe.
3.3 Guides and articles. Any guidance published here is general. Building regulations, safety requirements and best practice differ between properties. Please ask us about your specific situation.
4. Your account
4.1 Keeping it secure. If you create an account you are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything done through your account. Please choose a password you do not use anywhere else.
4.2 Tell us at once. If you think someone else has your password or has used your account, tell us immediately at enquiries@british-builders.co.uk and change it.
4.3 Accurate details. Please keep the details on your account accurate and up to date. We use them to reach you about jobs, payments and safety matters.
4.4 One account per person. An account is personal to you. Please do not share it, and do not create an account in someone else's name without their authority.
4.5 Suspending an account. We may suspend or close an account that is used in breach of these Terms, or where we reasonably suspect fraud or misuse. Where we do, we will tell you why unless the law prevents us.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the site:
- In any way that breaks the law, or for any unlawful or fraudulent purpose.
- To send, upload or link to material that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, abusive, harassing or infringes anyone's rights.
- To transmit any virus, worm, logic bomb or other harmful code.
- To gain or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers, or any computer connected to it.
- To interfere with the site's operation, including by denial-of-service attack or by placing an unreasonable load on it.
- To submit an enquiry, review or application that is false, or made on someone else's behalf without their authority.
5.1 Reporting abuse. If you see content on the site that should not be there, please tell us at enquiries@british-builders.co.uk and we will look at it promptly.
5.2 Breaking these rules. Serious or repeated breach may result in immediate withdrawal of your right to use the site, removal of material you posted, and, where criminal activity is involved, disclosure to the police.
6. Material you submit
6.1 What this covers. This section applies to anything you send through the site: enquiry details, photographs of your property, reviews of completed work, and documents uploaded with an engineer or supplier application.
6.2 You must have the right to send it. By submitting material you confirm that it is yours to send, that it is accurate as far as you know, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights or break the law.
6.3 What we may do with it. You keep ownership of what you send. You give us a licence to use it for the purpose you sent it for: to quote and carry out the work, to assess an application, or to publish a review. We will not publish material identifying you or your property beyond that purpose without asking you first.
6.4 Reviews. Reviews are the honest opinion of the customer who left them. We do not edit a review to change its meaning. We may decline to publish one that is abusive, identifies a third party, or is not about work we carried out, and we will say so if asked.
6.5 Removing material. We may remove anything submitted that breaches these Terms. You can ask us to remove material you submitted at any time.
7. Linking
7.1 Linking to us. You may link to our home page, provided you do so fairly and legally, without damaging our reputation or suggesting an association or endorsement that does not exist.
7.2 How not to link. Please do not frame our site on another, or present it as anything other than ours. We may withdraw permission to link at any time.
7.3 Links from us. Where we link to another site, we do so because we think it is useful. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
8. Availability of the site
8.1 No promise of uninterrupted service. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available or free of faults. We may suspend, withdraw or restrict all or part of it for business or operational reasons, and will give notice where we reasonably can.
8.2 Your own set-up. You are responsible for arranging your own access to the internet, and for making sure that anyone using the site through your connection knows these Terms.
8.3 Security on your side. Please use your own virus protection. We do not guarantee that the site is free from viruses, though we take reasonable care.
9. Our liability for the site
9.1 What we never exclude. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
9.2 If you are a Consumer. We provide the site for domestic and private use. We are not liable for loss that was not foreseeable when you started using it. Your statutory rights are unaffected.
9.3 If you are a Business. We exclude all implied conditions and warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law, and we are not liable for loss of profit, business, goodwill or data, or for any indirect or consequential loss, arising from use of the site.
9.4 Services are separate. This section is about the website. Our liability for work we carry out is dealt with in section 10 of the Customer Terms and Conditions.
10. General
10.1 Each clause stands alone. If any clause is held invalid, the remainder continue in force.
10.2 Governing law. These Terms are governed by English law. A Consumer may bring proceedings in England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. A Business agrees to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
10.3 Contact. Questions about these Terms: enquiries@british-builders.co.uk, 0330 912 7443, or 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ.
