Kitchen worktop cabinet upgrade and sink reinstatement in London

Kitchen Worktop Replacement — London

Project Overview

British Builders was appointed to carry out kitchen cabinet and worktop replacement works at Huguenot House on Oxendon Street in London. The existing kitchen base cabinet had become defective and required replacement, while the worktop needed to be removed and renewed to allow the upgraded cabinet to be installed correctly.

The works were managed as a wider kitchen remedial and upgrade package rather than a small cabinet swap. The engineer attended site, protected the surrounding kitchen areas and carefully removed the existing cabinet and worktop while avoiding unnecessary damage to adjacent units, tiles and finishes.

A new larger kitchen base cabinet was supplied and installed to improve the available storage and provide a more practical layout. The cabinet was levelled, securely fixed and aligned with the existing kitchen units to ensure the new installation sat neatly within the current arrangement.

A new compatible worktop was then measured, cut, shaped and fitted to suit the upgraded cabinet position. Where required, allowances were made for the sink area, appliances and adjacent fittings affected by the worktop removal. The sink, taps and related fittings were reinstated as needed following the installation.

All worktop edges, joints and vulnerable areas were sealed to achieve a clean and water-resistant finish. The existing cabinet door was also repaired and made good as advised by the engineer, helping the replacement works blend with the rest of the kitchen.

On completion, the cabinet and worktop were checked for alignment, stability and finish. The kitchen was left clean, safe and fully functional for normal use.

Scope of Work

  • Disposal of removed cabinet, worktop and associated waste materials
  • Supply and installation of a new larger kitchen base cabinet
  • Levelling and secure fixing of the new cabinet
  • Alignment of the cabinet with the existing kitchen layout
  • Supply and installation of a new kitchen worktop compatible with the larger cabinet
  • Measuring, cutting and shaping of the new worktop to fit the existing area
  • Cut-outs and adjustments for sink, appliances or fittings where applicable
  • Secure fixing of the new worktop
  • Reinstatement of sink, taps and affected fittings where required
  • Repair and making good of existing cabinet door as advised by the engineer
  • Application of sealant to worktop edges, joints and vulnerable areas
  • Final checks to cabinet alignment, worktop stability and overall finish
  • Cleaning of the kitchen and removal of waste from site

Challenges & Solutions
  • Defective cabinet condition — The existing kitchen cabinet was no longer suitable to remain in place. It was removed and replaced with a larger base cabinet to improve function and storage.
  • Worktop removal and replacement — The worktop had to be carefully removed to allow the cabinet upgrade. A new worktop was measured, cut and fitted to suit the revised cabinet layout.
  • Working around existing fittings — The kitchen included a sink, taps, appliances and surrounding units that needed to be protected or reinstated after the worktop replacement.
  • Alignment with existing kitchen units — The new cabinet and worktop had to sit neatly alongside the remaining kitchen units. The installation was levelled, fixed and adjusted for a consistent finish.
  • Water-resistant finishing — Worktop edges and joints were sealed to help protect vulnerable areas from moisture and everyday kitchen use.
  • Occupied property care — The kitchen was kept tidy throughout, with waste removed and the space left safe and functional on completion.

Final Outcome

The kitchen cabinet and worktop replacement works were completed successfully. The defective cabinet was removed, the worktop was replaced, and a new larger base cabinet was installed to improve the practicality of the kitchen.

The new worktop was cut, fitted and secured to suit the upgraded cabinet position, with sink, tap and affected fittings reinstated where required. Edges and joints were sealed to provide a clean, water-resistant finish.

By completing the works as a wider kitchen upgrade package, British Builders helped improve storage, worktop usability and the overall condition of the kitchen while retaining the existing layout and surrounding units where suitable.
