Project Overview

British Builders carried out the supply and installation of a new white uPVC external door at a residential property on Westwood Drive in Rubery, Birmingham. The existing front entrance door and frame required replacement to improve security, weather resistance, appearance and everyday use.

The works included removing the old door assembly, preparing the opening, installing a new uPVC frame and door, fitting new hardware, sealing the perimeter internally and externally, and checking the final operation. The completed installation provided a cleaner front entrance with improved draught protection and secure locking.

Scope of Work

• Inspection of the existing external door, frame, threshold and surrounding opening
• Careful removal of the old door, frame and associated fixings
• Preparation and squaring of the opening before new installation
• Supply and installation of a new white uPVC external door and frame
• Installation of suitable fixings, packers, trims and finishing profiles
• Fitting of new handles, hinges, lock cylinder and multi-point locking system
• Application of internal and external perimeter sealant for weather protection

• Inspection of the rear gate area while on site for separate review
• Removal of old door materials and clean-down of the working area

Challenges & Solutions

• Aged external door and frame — The existing door assembly was removed and replaced with a new uPVC door system to improve security, insulation and presentation.
• Need for a weather-tight entrance — The frame was aligned, packed and sealed carefully to reduce draughts and help prevent water ingress around the opening.
• Ensuring smooth daily operation — Hinges, handles, lock and cylinder were fitted and adjusted so the door opened, closed and locked correctly.
• Working within the existing brick opening — The installation was completed without structural alteration, with minor making good and trims used to create a neat finish.

Final Outcome

The new uPVC external door was installed successfully and left fully operational. The frame was securely fixed, the door was aligned correctly, and the locking system, handles and hinges were tested to confirm smooth and safe use.

The front entrance now has a cleaner and more modern appearance, with improved security and better protection against draughts and weather exposure. Waste materials were removed from site, and the surrounding area was left clean, tidy and safe on completion.
