Kitchen Retiling — Reading
Project Overview
British Builders carried out kitchen floor retiling works at a residential property on Salford Close in Reading. The existing kitchen floor tiles were aged and uneven in places, with visible gaps and worn grout lines affecting both the appearance and practicality of the floor.
The works covered an approximate 10–12 m² kitchen area and included removal of the existing floor tiles, subfloor preparation, priming, installation of new ceramic tiles, grouting and final sealing. The aim was to provide a cleaner, more durable and easier-to-maintain kitchen floor finish suitable for everyday use.
Scope of Work
- Inspection of the existing kitchen floor tiles and surrounding work area
- Removal of old floor tiles across the approved kitchen area
- Legal disposal of removed tiles and installation waste
- Preparation of the exposed subfloor before new tile installation
- Application of primer to improve tile adhesion
- Supply and installation of new standard ceramic floor tiles
- Careful setting out of tiles to maintain a neat floor layout
- Cutting and fitting tiles around kitchen units, edges and doorway areas
- Grouting and sealing of the completed tiled floor
- Final clean-down of the kitchen floor and surrounding areas
Challenges & Solutions
- Worn existing tile finish — The old floor tiles were removed and replaced with new ceramic tiles to create a cleaner and more consistent kitchen surface.
- Subfloor preparation before tiling — The exposed base was checked, prepared and primed to support better adhesion and a stable tile installation.
- Working around kitchen units and appliances — Tiles were carefully cut and fitted around fixed units, appliance spaces and edge details for a neat finish.
- Maintaining a practical kitchen layout — The new floor was set out to provide a clean, even appearance across the main walking and working areas of the kitchen.
Final Outcome
The kitchen retiling works were completed successfully. The existing tiles were removed, the subfloor was prepared, and new ceramic floor tiles were installed across the approved kitchen area with clean grout lines and a consistent finish.
The completed floor now provides a more practical, durable and presentable surface for the kitchen. All waste was removed from site, the tiled area was cleaned down, and the room was left tidy and ready for normal use.
