Hot Water Cylinder Replacement — Leeds

Project Overview

British Builders attended a property at Meanwood Heights, Meanwood Road, Leeds, to investigate ongoing hot water issues linked to the existing immersion-heated cylinder. The system showed signs of poor performance caused by heavy scale and sediment build-up, affecting reliability and hot water output.

The visit included inspection of the existing electrical isolation points, immersion heater connections and surrounding pipework. A replacement 150-litre direct cylinder was delivered to site, with the works prepared to include new immersion components, clean reconnection to existing services and full testing once access was available to proceed.

Scope of Work
  • Inspected the existing hot water immersion heater tank and connected services
  • Assessed scale and sediment build-up affecting cylinder performance
  • Checked the existing fused spur, isolator and visible electrical connections
  • Delivered a replacement insulated 150-litre direct cylinder to site
  • Prepared the installation plan for pipework and electrical reconnection
  • Allowed for new immersion element, thermostat, valves, fittings and seals
  • Planned system refill, air purging and thermostat setting after installation
  • Allowed for leak testing and confirmation of correct heating operation
  • Recommended scale protection to reduce future mineral build-up
  • Allowed for removal and responsible disposal of the old cylinder and packaging

Challenges & Solutions
  • The existing cylinder was heavily affected by scale and sediment — A full replacement cylinder was specified to restore reliable hot water performance.
  • The service area had exposed wiring and older isolation points — Electrical connections were inspected and planned for safe reconnection and testing.
  • The system required plumbing and electrical coordination — The works were prepared to include both pipework connection and immersion heater testing.
  • Access was restricted after delivery — The replacement materials were delivered and the installation remained ready to proceed once access was granted.

Current Progress

The replacement hot water cylinder was delivered to site and the existing immersion heater arrangement was inspected. The required installation materials and approach were confirmed, including a new insulated cylinder, immersion element, thermostat, fittings, seals and electrical testing at the existing fused spur or isolator.

The works are ready to continue once access is provided. On completion, the system will be refilled, purged, tested for leaks, commissioned for safe operation and left clean and tidy, with the old tank and packaging removed from site.
