Flat Refurbishment and Interior Upgrade in Tonbridge

Flat Refurbishment and Interior Upgrade — Cavendish Court, Tonbridge, Kent

Project Overview

British Builders was appointed to carry out a full internal refurbishment and practical upgrade of a residential flat at Cavendish Court in Tonbridge, Kent. The project focused on improving the condition, presentation and usability of the main internal areas, including the kitchen, bathroom, hallway, lounge, bedrooms and connecting rooms.

The property required a complete refresh of existing finishes, with works including strip-out, surface preparation, plastering, painting, kitchen refurbishment, bathroom improvements, heating upgrades, electrical fitting replacement and new flooring throughout.

The completed works were designed to create a cleaner, brighter and more durable living environment suitable for everyday use. Neutral finishes, white walls, modern fittings, new flooring and refreshed sanitary areas helped give the flat a more presentable and low-maintenance finish.

Scope of Work
  • Careful strip-out of existing kitchen units, bathroom fittings, vinyl flooring and carpets throughout the flat
  • Responsible removal and disposal of waste materials from the property
  • Inspection of existing plaster, ceilings, walls, woodwork, doors and trims before refurbishment works
  • Replastering of ceilings throughout the flat to create a smoother and more even finish
  • Localised wall repairs and plaster preparation where defects or surface damage were identified
  • Sanding, filling and preparation of woodwork, doors, frames, trims and skirting boards ready for painting
  • Priming and decorating of walls and ceilings using a clean white emulsion finish
  • Application of washable high-traffic paint finishes to hallway, kitchen, bathroom and shower room areas
  • Preparation and painting of woodwork with undercoat and white eggshell topcoats
  • Supply and installation of new white kitchen units in a practical layout similar to the original configuration
  • Installation of grey laminate worktops, stainless steel sink and mixer tap
  • Installation of ceramic wall tiles to the kitchen splashback areas, matching the clean neutral style of the property
  • Adjustment and reconnection of kitchen pipework and electrical connections where required
  • Bathroom and shower room refurbishment, including bath, toilet, basin fittings and associated sanitary ware
  • Installation of white ceramic wall tiles or equivalent neutral tiling to bathroom and shower areas
  • Installation of new vinyl flooring to kitchen, bathroom and shower room areas
  • Fitting of bath panel, silicone sealing and finishing details around wet areas
  • Installation of extractor fan to improve bathroom ventilation
  • Supply and installation of new radiators throughout the flat
  • Replacement of light pendants, switches and sockets with modern white fittings
  • Operational checks of electrical circuits and fittings following replacement works
  • Installation of high-traffic carpet to hallway areas and standard mid-range carpet to bedrooms and lounge
  • Installation of underlay, trims and door thresholds where required
  • Cleaning and tidying of all work areas following completion
  • Final walkthrough to check finishes, fittings, flooring, decoration and overall workmanship

Challenges & Solutions
  • Full internal refurbishment across multiple rooms — The flat required works across the kitchen, bathroom, hallway, lounge, bedrooms and circulation areas. The team organised the works in stages to ensure strip-out, preparation, installation and finishing were completed in a controlled sequence.
  • Surface preparation before decorating — Existing walls, ceilings, trims and door frames required preparation before painting. Defective areas were filled, sanded and locally repaired to create a cleaner base for the final white finish.
  • Kitchen replacement within existing layout — The kitchen was upgraded while keeping a practical configuration similar to the original layout. New white units, grey worktops, a stainless steel sink and neutral tiling helped improve both usability and presentation.
  • Bathroom and shower room refresh — The bathroom areas required replacement sanitary fittings, wall tiling, vinyl flooring and sealing works. Neutral finishes were used to create a clean, practical and easy-to-maintain space.
  • Durable rental-grade finishes — The property required hard-wearing finishes suitable for regular use. Washable paint, vinyl flooring in wet areas, high-traffic carpet and modern white fittings were selected to improve durability and maintenance.
  • Working across narrow internal access areas — The hallway and connecting rooms required careful material handling and sequencing. Tools, waste and materials were managed to keep access routes safe and organised during the works.
  • Heating and electrical upgrades — Radiators, pendants, switches and sockets were replaced with modern white fittings, helping improve the practical condition and presentation of the flat.

Final Outcome

The refurbishment works significantly improved the condition, appearance and practicality of the flat. The kitchen now has a cleaner and more modern layout with white units, grey worktops, a stainless steel sink, mixer tap and refreshed tiled splashback areas.

The bathroom and shower areas were upgraded with sanitary fittings, neutral wall tiles, vinyl flooring, sealing works and improved ventilation. These changes helped create cleaner and more functional wet areas suitable for everyday use.

The hallway, bedrooms and lounge were refreshed with white decoration, improved woodwork, new radiators, modern electrical fittings and new carpets. The overall internal presentation is now brighter, cleaner and more consistent throughout.

The property was left tidy, practical and ready for use, with improved finishes across the kitchen, bathroom, living spaces and circulation areas.
