Mould Removal — Nottingham
Project Overview
British Builders attended a property on Halstead Close, Nottingham, to carry out mould removal, anti-mould treatment and surface restoration works across several affected internal areas. The issue was visible around window reveals, bathroom ceiling areas, upper wall sections and other damp-prone corners where mould staining had developed over time.
The photos show mould growth around bathroom and bedroom windows, staining above window heads, affected ceiling areas near shower zones, and areas where moisture had caused visible surface deterioration. The works required more than a simple clean, as several areas needed preparation, treatment, sealing, plaster repair and repainting to help restore the condition of the rooms.
Our team cleaned and treated all visible mould-affected surfaces, applied anti-mould preventive treatment, repaired damaged plaster where required, sealed vulnerable window areas, and finished the treated surfaces with mould-resistant paint. The work was completed carefully to improve the appearance of the property and help reduce the risk of future mould returning.
Scope of Work
- Inspected the affected rooms and identified visible mould growth around windows, ceilings, wall corners and damp-prone areas.
- Protected surrounding fixtures, flooring and nearby surfaces before starting the mould removal works.
- Scrubbed and cleaned visible mould from affected walls, ceiling sections, window reveals and problem areas.
- Used suitable cleaning solutions designed to remove mould without damaging the underlying surfaces.
- Removed mould-contaminated loose debris and disposed of waste materials safely.
- Prepared high-risk areas including corners, window surrounds, bathroom ceiling sections and areas behind or near fixtures.
- Applied anti-mould preventive treatment to the cleaned surfaces to help kill remaining spores and reduce the chance of regrowth.
- Ensured even coverage across all treated areas, especially around window frames and damp-prone upper wall sections.
- Removed old and damaged plaster from affected wall areas where mould had penetrated the surface.
- Repaired and replaced damaged plaster to create a smooth and stable surface for decorating.
- Allowed repaired areas to dry properly before further preparation and finishing.
- Sanded and primed treated surfaces where required before painting.
- Applied mould-resistant paint to the affected walls and ceilings for improved long-term protection.
- Used two coats where required to achieve solid coverage and a clean finish.
- Inspected the window surrounds where mould staining had worsened.
- Applied filler to gaps and vulnerable joints around the affected window areas.
- Resealed window edges to help reduce moisture ingress and future mould formation.
- Matched the paint finish as closely as possible to the existing décor.
- Checked all treated areas after completion to confirm the mould had been removed and surfaces were properly finished.
- Cleaned the rooms thoroughly and removed all tools, materials and waste from site.
Challenges & Solutions
- The mould was present in several separate areas, including bathroom ceiling sections, bedroom window reveals and upper wall zones. Each area required individual preparation and treatment rather than a single surface clean.
- Some areas around the windows showed signs of moisture entering through small gaps. These sections were filled and resealed before repainting to help prevent the same issue from returning quickly.
- Where plaster had been affected, the damaged material was removed and replaced to provide a sound base for the new finish.
- The bathroom ceiling required careful treatment due to high humidity. Mould-resistant products were used to improve durability in this moisture-prone area.
Final Outcome
The mould removal and restoration works were completed successfully. All visible mould-affected areas were cleaned, treated with anti-mould solution, repaired where necessary and finished with mould-resistant paint.
The damaged plaster sections were restored, the window surrounds were sealed and filled, and the treated rooms were left clean and tidy. The property now has a cleaner, safer and more presentable finish, with added protection against future mould growth.
