Damp Treatment, Wall Repairs and Redecoration — Cadogan Street, Hull
Project Overview
British Builders attended a residential property on Cadogan Street in Hull to carry out a wider package of damp treatment, wall repairs and redecoration works.
The affected rooms showed visible signs of moisture damage, including stained walls, blown plaster, damaged lower wall sections, deterioration around skirting level and areas close to electrical sockets. The works were planned as a complete remedial repair rather than a simple cosmetic repaint, ensuring the damaged surfaces were properly opened up, treated and reinstated before decoration.
Following inspection, damp-affected wall areas were stripped back to remove loose, contaminated and damaged plaster. The team protected nearby flooring, furniture and surrounding finishes before carefully hacking off the compromised material to an appropriate height. Affected areas were then cleaned, treated and prepared for reinstatement.
Damp-proof treatment was applied to the exposed wall sections, with mould and bacteria treated using an anti-fungal solution. The wall surfaces were then repaired using suitable bonding and finishing materials, including making good around sockets, corners, returns, skirting lines and visible damaged patches.
Once the repaired areas had dried sufficiently, stain-blocking primer was applied before repainting with a clean, mould-resistant finish. The result was a much improved internal space, with the damp damage repaired, the wall surfaces restored and the affected areas left clean, dry and presentable.
Scope of Work
- Attendance at the property to inspect visible damp and moisture-affected areas
- Investigation of affected wall sections to identify likely moisture paths and damaged surfaces
- Protection of surrounding flooring, furniture, sockets and existing finishes
- Removal of loose, damaged and damp-affected plaster from multiple wall sections
- Hacking off contaminated plaster to a suitable working height where required
- Cleaning and preparation of exposed masonry and wall backgrounds
- Application of appropriate damp-proof treatment to affected areas
- Anti-fungal treatment to mould and bacteria-contaminated surfaces
- Allowance for drying time before reinstatement works continued
- Repair and reinstatement of damaged wall sections using suitable backing and finishing plaster
- Making good around electrical sockets and lower wall areas
- Repairs to corners, returns and skirting-level wall sections
- Levelling and smoothing of repaired surfaces ready for decoration
- Application of stain-blocking primer to treated and repaired areas
- Redecoration of affected wall sections with a clean mould-resistant finish
- Final inspection of treated areas after completion
- Clean-down and removal of waste materials generated during the works
Challenges & Solutions
- Extensive visible damp staining — Several lower wall areas showed staining and surface deterioration. The affected sections were stripped back rather than simply painted over.
- Blown and damaged plaster — Loose plaster was removed to expose a stable background before new repair materials were applied.
- Moisture around sockets — Areas around electrical points required careful working. Sockets were protected and checked where required before surrounding surfaces were repaired.
- Contaminated lower wall sections — Damp-affected plaster was hacked off to a suitable height and treated before reinstatement to reduce the risk of the same damage returning quickly.
- Surface mould and bacteria — Affected areas were treated with anti-fungal solution before replastering and decoration.
- Achieving a clean finish after heavy repair work — Once the wall repairs were complete, stain-blocking primer and repainting helped blend the treated areas into the surrounding room finish.
Final Outcome
The damp treatment, repair and redecoration works were completed successfully.
The damaged plaster was removed from the affected wall areas, exposed surfaces were treated, and the walls were rebuilt using suitable repair materials. Moisture staining, mould contamination and deteriorated lower wall sections were addressed as part of the remedial process.
After the treatment and plaster repairs were completed, the affected areas were primed and redecorated to restore a clean, bright and presentable finish. Skirting-level sections, corners, socket areas and visible damaged patches were made good, improving both the appearance and condition of the rooms.
The property was left tidy and ready for normal use, with the previously damp-affected walls restored to a much improved standard.
