Wooden Window Replacement — Nottingham
Project Overview
Job Number: JOB-67010
British Builders attended a property on Devonshire Promenade, Nottingham, to carry out wooden window replacement and associated glass installation works. The original scope was to replace damaged window glass in the downstairs area, however, during inspection our engineer identified that sections of the existing timber window frame were severely rotten and no longer suitable to hold the new glass securely.
The photos show several timber sash-style windows across the property, including downstairs and bathroom window areas, with visible signs of age, failed paintwork, damaged timber, worn sealant and deterioration around the frame edges. Due to the level of timber decay, a wider repair was required to ensure the window installation was safe, stable and long-lasting.
Our engineer carefully removed the affected window components, inspected the surrounding frame and prepared the opening for replacement. Rotten sections were removed, a new durable timber frame was supplied and fitted, and the new glass was installed securely with appropriate sealing and finishing works. The bathroom window area was also addressed with moisture-resistant preparation, sealant and finishing to help protect the frame from future damp-related damage.
Scope of Work
- Attended site to inspect the downstairs and bathroom window areas.
- Checked the existing glass, timber frame, sash sections, sill areas and surrounding trims.
- Identified severe rot and deterioration to the existing wooden window frame.
- Protected the internal work areas before carrying out removal works.
- Carefully removed damaged glass and loose frame sections.
- Removed rotten timber from the affected window frame.
- Prepared the opening and surrounding structure for new frame installation.
- Supplied and installed a new durable wooden window frame suitable for the property.
- Measured and installed new glass securely within the repaired/replaced frame.
- Secured the glass using suitable fixing methods and finishing materials.
- Applied sealant around the window edges to help prevent draughts and water ingress.
- Prepared timber surfaces by sanding and making good where required.
- Applied suitable primer and finish to match the existing window appearance as closely as possible.
- Completed moisture-resistant finishing around the bathroom window area.
- Checked window alignment, stability and overall fit after installation.
- Cleaned the glass, frame and surrounding work area after completion.
- Removed debris, old timber, broken glass and waste materials from site.
Challenges & Solutions
- The original window frame was more damaged than expected, with rotten timber that could not safely support a simple glass replacement. The solution was to replace the affected frame sections properly before installing the new glass.
- The bathroom window required additional care because timber in this area is exposed to moisture and humidity. Weatherproofing and sealing were completed to improve durability.
- The property had traditional timber window details, so the replacement work had to be carried out carefully to keep the appearance consistent with the existing windows.
- Old paint, failed sealant and weakened timber were removed before finishing, helping the new frame sit securely and creating a cleaner final result.
Final Outcome
The damaged wooden window frame was replaced and the new glass was installed securely. Rotten timber was removed, the frame was repaired and renewed where required, and the window edges were sealed to help protect against draughts, moisture and future deterioration.
The bathroom window area was finished with suitable moisture-resistant preparation and sealant, and all affected areas were cleaned after completion. The property was left with a safer, more secure and better-presented window installation.
