Boarded damaged windows and doors at vacant property in Blackburn

Emergency Window Boarding — Cleveleys Road, Blackburn

Project Overview

British Builders attended an urgent security job at a vacant property on Cleveleys Road, Blackburn, following reports of multiple smashed windows across the house. The damage affected both upstairs and downstairs window openings, leaving the property exposed to weather, unauthorised access, and further deterioration.

The priority was to make the property safe and secure as quickly as possible. Our engineer collected access keys from the Blackburn office, inspected the full extent of the damage, cleared hazardous glass where required, boarded the affected windows and openings, and measured the damaged areas for follow-up replacement glazing quotations.

Scope of Work
  • Collected keys and attended the vacant property as an urgent callout.
  • Inspected the external elevations and internal rooms to identify all damaged windows and vulnerable openings.
  • Assessed broken glass, exposed frames, loose fragments, and immediate safety risks.
  • Checked both upstairs and downstairs windows affected by impact damage.
  • Cleared loose glass and debris from accessible areas to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Prepared damaged window openings for temporary boarding.
  • Cut durable plywood boards to suit the affected window sizes and frame positions.
  • Securely boarded damaged windows from inside and outside where access allowed.
  • Ensured boards were fitted firmly to reduce movement, draughts, and tampering risk.
  • Reinforced temporary boards where required for larger window openings.
  • Checked the stability of each boarded section after installation.
  • Measured damaged panes and window areas for replacement glazing quotations.
  • Reviewed the condition of the property after securing the main damaged areas.
  • Removed loose waste and left the immediate working areas safer and more secure.
  • Provided recommendations for permanent window and door glass replacement.

Challenges & Solutions
  • Multiple windows were damaged across different levels of the property — each affected opening was inspected and boarded individually.
  • The property was vacant and vulnerable — the work was treated as an urgent security attendance to reduce further risk.
  • Broken glass was present around the property — loose fragments were cleared where safe and practical before boarding.
  • Some window openings were larger and more exposed — plywood boards were cut and fixed securely to provide temporary weather and security protection.
  • Permanent glazing was still required — measurements were taken during the visit so replacement works could be quoted as the next step.

Final Outcome

The damaged upstairs and downstairs windows were securely boarded, making the vacant property safer and reducing the risk of further access, weather exposure, and damage. Each boarded section was checked to confirm it was firmly in place.

The property was left temporarily secured while replacement glazing is arranged. Measurements were taken for the damaged panes and window areas, allowing a follow-up quote to be prepared for permanent window and door glass replacement.

The urgent boarding work was completed successfully, and the affected areas were left in a safer and more controlled condition.
