Bathroom Leak Repair β Hyde
Project Overview
British Builders attended a residential property on Mottram Road, Broadbottom, Hyde, to investigate and rectify a bathroom leak affecting the kitchen wall and chimney breast below. The inspection identified water escaping from the shower and bath area, with further concern around the pipework beneath the bath.
The work focused on stopping the active water ingress, improving the shower enclosure, stabilising and resealing the bath, and checking the visible waste pipework. The photos show the bathroom area, bath and shower screen position, under-bath pipework, and water staining to the wall below, confirming the need for a careful remedial plumbing and sealing repair rather than a simple silicone touch-up.
Scope of Work
- Inspected the bathroom, shower area, bath edges, and visible pipework beneath the bath.
- Identified likely water escape points around the bath, shower screen area, and waste pipework.
- Removed failed or insufficient sealant where required around the bath perimeter.
- Stabilised the bath to reduce movement and help prevent future sealant failure.
- Installed protective quadrant beading around the bath edges for a cleaner watertight finish.
- Resealed the bath thoroughly to bridge gaps between the bath and tiled wall.
- Proposed fitting a properly installed shower screen to reduce water escaping during use.
- Repaired leaking waste pipework beneath the bath where identified.
- Checked toilet and sink drainage concerns and prepared for further estimate if required.
- Left the bathroom area clean and tidy upon completion.
Challenges & Solutions
- Water damage visible below the bathroom β the leak source was traced back to the bath and shower area.
- Gap caused by bath movement β the bath was stabilised and resealed with additional protective beading.
- Leak beneath the bath β the waste pipework was inspected and repaired to restore a watertight connection.
- Additional drainage concerns β the toilet and sink drainage issues were reviewed for a separate repair estimate.
Final Outcome
The bathroom leak was addressed through a structured remedial repair, including bath stabilisation, resealing, quadrant beading, and waste pipework repair. These works were completed to prevent further water escaping into the kitchen wall and chimney breast below.
The bathroom was left safer and more reliable for day-to-day use, with the shower and bath area better protected against water ingress. Any additional drainage issues were noted for further assessment and quotation where required.
