Bathroom Shower and Leak Repairs — Hobson Street, Stockport

Project Overview

British Builders attended a property on Hobson Street in Stockport to carry out bathroom remedial repairs following reported leakage issues and incomplete or defective bathroom installation works.

The bathroom required a coordinated repair visit to address both the likely source of water escape and the visible areas affected by poor finishing. The reported issues included defective shower fittings, an unsuitable or incomplete shower screen arrangement, incomplete grout to tiled areas, and movement around the toilet pan.

Rather than carrying out a small isolated repair, the works were completed as a wider bathroom leak-prevention and finishing package. Our engineer inspected the shower area, screen position, tiled surfaces, grout lines, toilet base and surrounding sanitary fittings before carrying out the approved repairs.

The existing wall-mounted shower assembly was removed where required, and new compatible shower fittings were supplied and installed. A replacement shower hose, handset and mixer connection were fitted, secured and tested to ensure correct operation and watertight performance.

A new shower screen was supplied and installed to better suit the bath/shower area and reduce water escape during use. The screen was positioned, fixed and sealed to the surrounding surfaces.

Defective and incomplete grout was removed from affected tiled areas, and the tiles were regrouted to improve the finish and support water resistance. The toilet pan was also refitted securely to the floor and resealed at the base to reduce movement and help prevent leakage around the WC area.

All completed areas were checked, sealed and tested before handover.

Scope of Work
  • Site attendance and inspection of the bathroom leak and defective installation areas
  • Inspection of shower fittings, tiled areas, screen position and toilet pan movement
  • Removal of the existing wall-mounted shower assembly where required
  • Supply and installation of new shower hose and handset
  • Supply and installation of compatible mixer connection fittings
  • Securing and sealing of shower fittings to help prevent leakage
  • Testing of shower operation and watertightness after installation
  • Supply and installation of a new shower screen suitable for the bath/shower area
  • Positioning and adjustment of the shower screen to reduce water escape
  • Fixing and sealing of the shower screen to the surrounding area
  • Removal of defective or incomplete grout from affected tiled areas
  • Regrouting of affected tile joints to improve finish and water resistance
  • Inspection and refitting of the toilet pan to reduce movement
  • Securing of the toilet pan to the floor where required
  • Resealing around the base of the toilet pan
  • Final water testing, clean-down and removal of minor waste from the work area

Challenges & Solutions
  • Ongoing leakage issue — The works needed to address both the source of water escape and the areas where poor finishing could allow further moisture movement.
  • Defective shower installation — The existing shower assembly required removal and replacement with compatible fittings. New hose, handset and mixer connection components were installed and tested.
  • Water escaping from the shower area — A suitable shower screen was supplied, positioned and sealed to reduce splashing and improve water containment during use.
  • Incomplete tiled finish — Affected grout lines were removed and renewed to improve the appearance and waterproofing of the tiled shower area.
  • Toilet pan movement — The toilet pan was refitted and resealed to reduce movement and prevent water or debris from tracking around the base.
  • Hidden defect risk — The works were based on visible and accessible areas. Any hidden substrate deterioration or concealed water damage would need to be assessed separately if discovered.

Final Outcome

The bathroom remedial repair works were completed successfully.

The defective shower fittings were removed and replaced with new compatible components, including a shower hose, handset and mixer connection. The fittings were secured, sealed and tested for correct operation.

A new shower screen was installed to better suit the bath/shower area and help prevent water escaping during use. The screen was fixed, adjusted and sealed to create a more practical and watertight finish.

Defective and incomplete grout was removed from the affected tiled areas and renewed to improve both appearance and water resistance. The toilet pan was also refitted securely to the floor and resealed around the base to reduce movement and help prevent future leakage.

The bathroom was left cleaner, more functional and better protected against further water escape, with all visible repair areas checked before completion.
