Bed-Bug Treatment — Manchester
Project Overview
British Builders carried out a full bed-bug eradication programme at a residential property on Local Crescent in Manchester. The works followed an earlier inspection where bed-bug activity had been identified, requiring a structured treatment plan across sleeping areas, furniture, flooring edges, soft furnishings and adjoining living spaces.
The programme was completed over two treatment visits using a combination of insecticidal treatment, steam application, chemical fogging and monitoring measures. The work focused on treating confirmed harbourage zones, reducing the risk of migration into other rooms and providing clear tenant guidance to support the long-term control process.
Scope of Work
- Preparatory sweep of all identified infestation zones following the previous inspection
- Treatment of sleeping areas, including mattresses, bed frames, headboards and bedside furniture
- Targeted treatment to skirting boards, flooring edges, soft furnishings, cracks and crevices
- Chemical fogging of the property to reach voids, gaps and less accessible areas
- Application of residual insecticidal spray to carpets, under-bed areas, wardrobes and sofas
- Treatment of adjoining living areas to reduce the risk of bed-bug migration
- Dismantling of selected furniture to allow more thorough invasive treatment
- Heat-focused steam treatment to key nesting and harbourage points
- Installation of monitoring traps and gel monitors throughout the property
- Second treatment visit completed in line with standard bed-bug lifecycle control
- Tenant aftercare advice, including hoovering guidance and pet safety recommendations
- Treatment report prepared with infestation notes, spread pattern and recommendations
Challenges & Solutions
- Activity across multiple harbourage points — Sleeping areas, furniture, skirting lines and flooring edges were treated in detail to target both visible and concealed activity.
- Risk of spread into adjoining rooms — Living areas and surrounding zones were included in the treatment plan to help prevent migration beyond the main affected areas.
- Bed-bug lifecycle control — A second treatment visit was completed after the initial treatment period to target follow-on activity and improve eradication results.
- Tenant preparation and aftercare — Clear guidance was provided on hoovering, temporary property vacancy, drying time and pet treatment to reduce the risk of re-infestation.
Final Outcome
The full bed-bug treatment programme was completed successfully across the affected areas of the property. The engineer carried out targeted insecticidal treatment, steam application, fogging and residual spraying, with particular attention given to sleeping areas, furniture joints, skirting boards, carpets and concealed harbourage points.
A second visit was completed to support the eradication process and interrupt the bed-bug lifecycle. Monitoring measures were installed, tenant guidance was provided, and the property was left with clear recommendations for ongoing control, cleaning and prevention after treatment.
