Damp Remedial Skirting Board Repairs — Sherbourne Close, Chesterton, Cambridge

Project Overview

British Builders attended a residential property on Sherbourne Close in Chesterton, Cambridge to complete damp remedial repairs following a previous leak.

The lower wall areas and skirting boards had been affected by moisture damage and mould growth, especially around the room perimeter where the skirting met the floor and wall surfaces. Our team removed damaged skirting where required, cleaned and treated the affected areas, and prepared the wall and floor junctions for replacement timber.

New softwood skirting boards were supplied and fitted to match the existing profile as closely as practicable. The replacement sections were secured, filled, sealed, primed and locally redecorated to restore a clean and presentable finish.

Scope of Work
  • Site attendance and inspection of damp-affected lower wall areas
  • Assessment of damaged skirting boards and surrounding surfaces
  • Removal of moisture-damaged and mould-affected skirting sections
  • Cleaning and preparation of wall and floor junctions
  • Application of anti-fungal treatment to affected surfaces
  • Supply and fitting of replacement softwood skirting boards
  • Secure fixing, filling and sealing of repaired sections
  • Priming and local redecoration to affected areas
  • Removal of damaged timber, waste materials and final clean-down

Challenges & Solutions
  • Moisture-damaged skirting — Affected sections were removed instead of being painted over.
  • Mould contamination — Exposed areas were cleaned and treated before new timber was fitted.
  • Matching existing finish — Replacement skirting was fitted to follow the existing profile as closely as possible.
  • Lower wall damage — Surrounding areas were filled, sealed, primed and locally redecorated.
  • Occupied property conditions — The work area was controlled, cleaned and cleared after completion.

Final Outcome

The damp remedial skirting board repairs were completed successfully.

Damaged skirting sections were removed, affected lower wall areas were treated, and new softwood skirting was installed. Local making good and redecoration helped blend the repaired sections with the surrounding room surfaces.

The works addressed the visible moisture damage and left the area cleaner, tidier and more suitable for day-to-day use.
