Decking Replacement
Client Feedback
“The new decking looks clean, modern and much safer to use than the old timber surface.”

Decking Replacement — London
Project Overview
British Builders completed decking replacement works at a residential property on Forest Road, London. The existing timber decking had become heavily weathered, with visible rot, moss growth, surface deterioration and damaged boards creating an unsafe and unattractive outdoor area.
Following inspection, the old decking was removed and the base area was prepared for a new installation. A more durable decking solution was recommended, with composite decking selected as a practical option for improved longevity, lower maintenance and a cleaner modern finish. The works focused on restoring safe use of the balcony area while improving the overall appearance and durability of the external surface.
Scope of Work
- Inspected the existing decking to identify rotten boards, unstable sections and areas of moisture damage.
- Removed the damaged timber decking boards from the balcony area.
- Cleared moss, loose debris and deteriorated timber from the exposed deck base.
- Checked the existing support structure and prepared the area for new decking installation.
- Supplied suitable replacement decking materials based on the client’s chosen finish.
- Installed new decking boards across the balcony area with consistent spacing and alignment.
- Fitted boards neatly around edges, thresholds and balcony glazing where required.
- Secured the decking to provide a stable and reliable walking surface.
- Recommended composite decking for improved weather resistance and reduced future maintenance.
- Removed old timber, waste materials and installation debris from site.
Challenges & Solutions
- The original timber decking was badly weathered and affected by rot — all failed sections were removed before the new installation.
- The balcony area required careful working around glass balustrades and door thresholds — new boards were measured and fitted neatly to suit the existing layout.
- Moisture and moss build-up had affected the old surface — the area was cleared and prepared before fitting the replacement decking.
- A longer-lasting finish was required — composite decking was recommended for durability, low maintenance and improved weather resistance.
Final Outcome
The old damaged decking was successfully removed and replaced with a clean, modern decking surface suitable for everyday use. The new boards provide a safer, more stable and more attractive finish across the balcony area, improving both appearance and practicality.
The completed works restored the outdoor space with a durable, low-maintenance surface and a much neater overall presentation. All waste materials were removed, and the area was left clean and tidy on completion.
