Drain Survey and Cleaning β Liverpool
Project Overview
British Builders attended Birchtree Court, Liverpool, to inspect and assess the external drainage serving the managed flats within the development. The site included communal access areas, external manholes and several drainage runs leading from the flats towards the main drainage system.
The works focused on planned drain maintenance, including opening inspection chambers, checking the condition of the lines, reviewing areas affected by heavy build-up, and using drain inspection equipment to establish where cleaning or clearance was required. Safety barriers were used around open chambers and working areas to protect residents and maintain safe access across the communal driveway.
Scope of Work
- Attended the communal external drainage areas serving the managed flats
- Identified the relevant inspection chambers and drainage access points
- Opened drain covers safely and checked visible drain conditions
- Inspected build-up within the chambers and connecting drain lines
- Used CCTV drain inspection equipment to review the condition of the drainage runs
- Checked sections from the property drainage points towards the main drain route
- Set out cones and barriers around open chambers for safe working
- Assessed where drain cleaning or further clearance would be required
- Maintained access through the communal driveway during inspection
- Left covers reinstated and the external area safe on completion
Challenges & Solutions
- The drainage system served multiple flats β The operative inspected the communal drainage route carefully to understand how the lines connected.
- Some chambers contained heavy waste build-up β The inspection was used to identify the areas requiring cleaning before a full survey could be completed.
- The works were carried out in a shared residential access road β Barriers and cones were positioned to keep residents and vehicles away from open drain covers.
- The site included managed flats and private properties nearby β The inspection was kept to the agreed external drainage areas serving the managed development.
Final Outcome
The external drains at Birchtree Court were inspected and assessed as part of planned maintenance for the managed flats. The works provided a clearer understanding of the drainage condition, the areas affected by build-up, and the sections requiring cleaning before any further detailed survey or remedial action.
All accessible chambers were made safe after inspection, and the communal areas were left tidy and secure. The findings allow the next stage of drainage cleaning or further investigation to be planned in a controlled and practical way.
