Gas Ventilation Works
Client Feedback
“The required ventilation works were completed carefully, and the gas system was checked again so the property could move forward with certification.”

Gas Ventilation Works — Aysgarth Road, Birley Carr, Sheffield
Project Overview
British Builders attended a residential property on Aysgarth Road, Birley Carr, Sheffield, to carry out gas-related remedial works following a Gas Safety Inspection. The inspection covered the gas boiler, gas cooker and two gas fires, with the engineer identifying that additional ventilation was required before the property could meet the necessary gas safety requirements.
The works focused on improving airflow and safety compliance by installing a black hole vent through the kitchen wall to the outside. The engineer also checked the boiler area, visible pipework, gas appliances and ventilation route to ensure the installation was suitable for the property layout and completed to a safe, practical standard.
Scope of Work
- Attended the property to assess the gas boiler, gas cooker and two gas fires.
- Reviewed the existing ventilation provision against gas safety requirements.
- Identified that additional fixed ventilation was required before certification could be completed.
- Checked the kitchen wall position and external route for the new vent installation.
- Prepared the internal wall area carefully before drilling and fitting the vent.
- Installed a black hole vent through the kitchen wall to provide permanent airflow to the outside.
- Secured the vent correctly to prevent movement and maintain a neat finish.
- Sealed around the vent to reduce draught gaps and avoid unnecessary damage to the surrounding wall.
- Checked the visible boiler pipework, appliance area and surrounding surfaces during the visit.
- Rechecked the gas appliance setup after the ventilation work was completed.
- Confirmed that the new ventilation was functioning as intended.
- Carried out final checks to support the issuing of the Gas Safety Certificate.
- Cleaned the working area and removed waste materials from the installation.
Challenges & Solutions
- The gas safety inspection identified insufficient ventilation — a new permanent black hole vent was installed through the kitchen wall.
- The property included multiple gas appliances — the boiler, cooker and gas fires were considered as part of the wider safety review.
- The vent needed to be installed without causing unnecessary disruption — the wall opening was prepared carefully and sealed after fitting.
- The boiler and pipework area had restricted access — the engineer worked around the existing appliance layout and checked the visible connections.
- The certificate could not be completed until the remedial work was finished — the final inspection confirmed the ventilation was ready for certification review.
Final Outcome
The required ventilation was installed successfully, providing a permanent airflow route from the kitchen area to the outside. The vent was secured and sealed properly, with the surrounding area left tidy after completion.
Following installation, the engineer carried out final checks to confirm the vent was functioning correctly and that the gas system could be reassessed for compliance. The boiler, cooker and gas fire setup was reviewed again as part of the safety process.
The property was left in a safer and more compliant condition, allowing the Gas Safety Certificate process to move forward once the completed ventilation work had been confirmed.
Client Feedback
“The engineer explained the issue clearly and completed the ventilation work needed for the gas safety check. The area was left tidy and ready for the certificate to be progressed.” – Landlord
