British Builders completed a gate replacement and fencing repair job at a residential property on Taft Avenue, Nottingham, Derbyshire. The existing timber gate and adjoining fence sections had become damaged, weathered and unstable, with visible deterioration to the boards, posts and supporting fixings.

The work focused on removing the failed sections and installing a new, stronger timber gate arrangement with matching fencing panels, secure posts and new ironmongery. Care was taken to improve the appearance, access, security and long-term durability of the side entrance area while keeping the finish consistent with the surrounding garden and property exterior.

Scope of Work

• Removed the damaged existing timber gate, broken boards and unstable fencing sections.
• Cleared the working area to allow safe access along the side passage.
• Supplied and installed a new timber gate using durable external-grade materials.
• Installed new gate ironmongery, including hinges, latch, handle and locking components.
• Supplied and fitted a new full fencing panel to match the existing fence line.
• Installed a half panel to complete the side coverage and improve privacy.
• Supplied and installed new timber posts to support the gate and fence panels.
• Secured the posts using Postcrete for improved stability and long-term support.
• Aligned the gate to ensure smooth opening, closing and secure operation.
• Removed old timber, damaged panels, packaging and installation waste from site.

Challenges & Solutions

• The previous gate and fence sections were heavily weathered and structurally weakened — the damaged timber was removed and replaced with new external-grade materials.
• The side access area required a neat and secure finish beside the brick wall — new posts and panels were installed to create a stronger and more uniform layout.
• The new gate needed to operate smoothly within a restricted side passage — the hinges, latch and alignment were carefully adjusted during installation.
• Long-term stability was important due to outdoor exposure — the supporting posts were fixed with Postcrete to provide a secure base.

Final Outcome

The old damaged gate and fencing were successfully replaced with a new timber gate, matching fence panels, secure posts and new black ironmongery. The side entrance is now stronger, more practical and visually improved, with a clean timber finish that suits the existing garden and external brickwork.

The completed installation restored safe access, improved privacy and provided a much more reliable boundary solution for the property. All waste materials were removed from site, leaving the area clean and ready for use.
