Kitchen ceiling leak repair and repainting in Huddersfield

Mixed Works — Northfield Terrace, Huddersfield

Project Overview

British Builders completed a mixed repair project at a residential property on Northfield Terrace in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield. The work focused on investigating a ceiling leak, carrying out access repairs, restoring the affected ceiling areas and completing the finishing works.

The kitchen area was protected before the ceiling was opened in several controlled locations. Once the affected sections were inspected, our team repaired the issue, reinstated the ceiling with new plasterboard where required, prepared the surface and completed painting to blend with the existing finish.

Scope of Work
  • Protected kitchen units, appliances, flooring and furniture with dust sheets and protective coverings
  • Carefully cut into the ceiling at selected access points to investigate the leak
  • Inspected pipework, ceiling voids and surrounding areas to identify the source of water ingress
  • Completed necessary pipework repairs and checked the system for further signs of leakage
  • Removed loose or damaged ceiling material around the affected sections
  • Supplied and installed new plasterboard to close the ceiling openings
  • Filled joints, patched areas and screw points to prepare a smooth surface
  • Sanded and blended the repaired ceiling sections with the surrounding finish
  • Applied primer to the repaired areas before decoration
  • Painted the ceiling with matching emulsion for a clean and consistent finish
  • Checked surrounding areas and completed final touch-ups where needed
  • Cleared tools, coverings and work debris, leaving the kitchen tidy

Challenges & Solutions
  • The leak source was not immediately visible, so the ceiling had to be opened carefully in multiple areas without causing unnecessary damage.
  • The kitchen remained occupied, requiring additional protection of cabinets, appliances and surfaces during the works.
  • Ceiling repairs were blended across the affected sections to create a neat finish rather than leaving obvious patch marks.

Final Outcome

The leak was investigated and repaired, the affected ceiling sections were restored with new plasterboard and filler, and the surface was primed and repainted. The kitchen ceiling was left clean, secure and visually improved, with all work completed over a planned multi-day visit to allow for drying and finishing.
