Mould Treatment and Repainting — Birmingham
Project Overview
British Builders carried out mould treatment and repainting works at a residential property on Wilton Road, Erdington, Birmingham. The works focused on the upstairs bedroom walls adjacent to the chimney area and the kitchen wall surrounding the window, where visible staining, peeling paint, and mould activity had affected the internal finish.
This was a structured maintenance job involving surface preparation, anti-mould treatment, priming, and repainting. Rather than simply covering the affected areas, the surfaces were properly inspected, cleaned back, treated, and finished with suitable coatings to improve the appearance of the rooms and help protect the walls going forward.
Scope of Work
- Inspected the upstairs bedroom walls for signs of damp, mould, and damaged paintwork.
- Prepared affected wall surfaces adjacent to the chimney area.
- Removed loose, peeling, and unstable paint where required.
- Applied specialist anti-mould treatment to affected bedroom wall areas.
- Allowed appropriate drying time before applying base coating.
- Applied one coat of anti-mould base paint to prepared surfaces.
- Treated the full kitchen wall area surrounding the window.
- Applied anti-mould primer to the kitchen wall before repainting.
- Finished treated areas with two coats of standard decorative wall paint.
- Cleaned the work areas and removed debris after completion.
Challenges & Solutions
- Mould activity around the kitchen window wall — the full affected surface was treated before repainting.
- Damaged and flaking paint in the bedroom — loose areas were removed and prepared for a more stable finish.
- Multiple affected rooms — the work was completed as one coordinated internal maintenance visit.
- Risk of recurring surface mould — anti-mould treatment, base paint, and primer were used before final coats.
Final Outcome
The affected bedroom and kitchen wall areas were treated, prepared, primed, and repainted to provide a cleaner and more consistent internal finish. The work improved the appearance of the rooms while adding anti-mould protection beneath the final decorative paint layers.
All areas were completed carefully, with attention given to the wall edges, window surround, skirting areas, and previously damaged paintwork. The property was left clean, tidy, and ready for normal use.
