Partial Roof Repair — Sheffield

Project Overview

British Builders carried out a partial roof repair at a property on Abbey Crescent, Sheffield. The works focused on a weather-exposed section of the pitched roof where the existing felt beneath the roof tiles had deteriorated and required replacement to improve protection against water ingress.

The photos show the roof tiles being stripped back, the failed felt exposed beneath the covering, and new breathable roofing membrane installed across the affected section. Although this was a targeted repair, the work required careful tile removal, inspection of the exposed battens and roof structure, installation of new membrane, and relaying of the existing concrete roof tiles to restore the roof covering securely.

Scope of Work
  • Inspected the affected roof section and identified the area requiring partial repair.
  • Carefully stripped back the roof covering, including approximately four rows of concrete roof tiles.
  • Removed the deteriorated roofing felt from beneath the tiles.
  • Cleared loose debris, broken tile fragments and dirt from the exposed roof area.
  • Checked the exposed battens and roof section before reinstatement.
  • Supplied and installed new breathable roofing membrane to improve ventilation and moisture control.
  • Re-fixed battens as required to support the relaid tile covering.
  • Relayed the original roof tiles, ensuring correct alignment and secure positioning.
  • Checked the repaired section for weatherproofing integrity on completion.
  • Cleared the working area and removed waste materials from site.

Challenges & Solutions
  • The existing felt had failed beneath the tile covering — the affected section was stripped back and replaced with new breathable roofing membrane.
  • The repair area was positioned along a sloped roof section near the gutter line — the tiles were removed and relaid carefully to maintain proper water run-off.
  • Some debris and broken tile fragments were present beneath the roof covering — the area was cleaned before the new membrane was fitted.
  • The original roof tiles needed to be reused where possible — they were relaid neatly and aligned with the surrounding roof covering.

Final Outcome

The damaged roof felt was removed and replaced with new breathable membrane, improving the protection of the roof structure against moisture and helping the roof covering perform correctly. The original concrete roof tiles were relaid securely and aligned with the surrounding roof section for a tidy finish.

The repaired area was checked for weatherproofing integrity, and the site was left clean and tidy on completion, with waste and loose debris removed from the property.
