Bathroom Leak Prevention — Manvers Road, Sheffield
Project Overview
British Builders attended a residential property on Manvers Road, Sheffield, to carry out bathroom leak prevention works around the bath and shower area. The existing bath panel was damaged, with visible cracking and poor edge protection, creating a risk of water escaping during shower use and travelling beneath the bath.
The work involved removing the existing bath panel, improving the side protection around the bath, installing new panelling and cladding, and sealing vulnerable joints to create a more reliable waterproof barrier. The aim was to help keep water inside the bath area and reduce the risk of leakage into the floor structure and the ceiling below.
Scope of Work
- Inspected the bath area to identify points where water could escape during shower use.
- Checked the condition of the existing bath panel, side areas, lower edges and visible fixings.
- Carefully removed the damaged bath panel and prepared the area for new installation works.
- Supplied and installed new bath panels to both sides of the bath to improve water containment.
- Installed cladding material to create a more durable and waterproof surface around the bath.
- Secured the new panels and cladding with suitable fixings to reduce movement and improve stability.
- Sealed all main seams, joints and exposed edges using waterproof silicone sealant.
- Reinforced the vulnerable lower sections where water could potentially pass beneath the bath.
- Checked the alignment of the new panels and adjusted them for a neat, practical finish.
- Tested the sealed areas to confirm improved water containment around the bath zone.
- Completed final checks to ensure the installation was secure and ready for daily use.
- Cleaned the bathroom work area and removed waste materials on completion.
Challenges & Solutions
- The existing bath panel was cracked and no longer provided reliable protection — it was removed and replaced with new fitted panelling.
- Water had the potential to escape from the sides of the bath during shower use — cladding and sealed edges were installed to create a stronger waterproof barrier.
- The lower sections around the bath required better reinforcement — secure fixings were added to help prevent movement and reduce gaps.
- The bathroom needed a practical solution without a full refurbishment — targeted leak prevention works were completed around the affected bath area.
- The finished installation had to be suitable for everyday tenant use — all panels, joints and seals were checked before handover.
Final Outcome
The bathroom now has a more secure and water-resistant bath surround. The new bath panels and cladding provide a cleaner, stronger barrier to help keep water inside the bath area during shower use.
All joints and vulnerable edges were sealed, and the installation was checked to confirm that the panels were secure and properly fitted. The work has helped reduce the risk of water escaping beneath the bath and causing further damage to the floor or ceiling below.
The bathroom was left clean and tidy after completion, with the new waterproofing arrangement ready for continued use.
