Radiator Replacement — London

Project Overview

Job Number: JOB-67069

British Builders attended a residential property on Prince Arthur Road, London, to complete radiator valve and heating system remedial works within a bedroom. The existing radiator had issues with non-shutting valves, which required the heating system to be drained down before the radiator could be safely removed and replaced.

The photos show the radiator positioned beneath the window, the exposed wall area behind the unit, pipework connections, valves and the surrounding bedroom area. Our engineer protected the working area, isolated and drained the heating system, removed the old radiator and inspected the pipe connections before installing the replacement radiator.

Once the new radiator was fitted, the system was refilled, checked for leaks and tested to confirm that the radiator was heating correctly. The surrounding area was cleaned, and waste materials from the old radiator and fittings were removed from site.

Scope of Work
  • Attended site to inspect the existing radiator, valves and heating pipework.
  • Protected the bedroom flooring and nearby furniture before starting the work.
  • Drained down the heating system to allow safe removal of the faulty radiator.
  • Disconnected the existing radiator from the heating pipework.
  • Removed the old radiator carefully from the wall brackets and pipe connections.
  • Inspected the wall area, brackets, valve positions and surrounding pipework.
  • Checked the radiator valves and pipe connections where the previous fittings were not shutting correctly.
  • Prepared the installation area for the replacement radiator.
  • Supplied and installed a new radiator suitable for the room and heating system.
  • Connected the new radiator securely to the existing heating pipework.
  • Adjusted and tightened valve connections to ensure a secure fit.
  • Refilled the heating system after installation.
  • Bled the radiator and checked circulation through the system.
  • Tested the new radiator for heat output and correct operation.
  • Checked all visible joints and valve connections for leaks.
  • Removed waste materials and left the bedroom area clean and tidy.

Challenges & Solutions
  • The existing radiator valves were not shutting correctly, so a full system drain down was required before the radiator could be safely disconnected.
  • The radiator was located below a window and close to bedroom furniture, so the work area had to be protected and managed carefully.
  • The old radiator and wall area showed signs of previous wear and residue, so the connections were checked thoroughly before the replacement was fitted.
  • After installation, the system was refilled and tested carefully to ensure the new radiator operated correctly without leaks.

Final Outcome

The faulty radiator was removed and replaced with a new unit. The heating system was drained, refilled and tested, with the radiator checked for correct operation and secure connections.

The bedroom area was left tidy, the old radiator and waste materials were removed, and the heating system was restored to working condition.
