Shower Enclosure Replacement β€” Manchester

Project Overview

British Builders completed a shower enclosure replacement and associated bathroom repair works at a residential property on Yew Street, Manchester. The existing shower area showed signs of wear around the frame, tray, silicone lines and lower UPVC sections, with old sealant, staining and exposed areas around the base requiring careful removal and preparation.

The works involved removing the old conventional-style shower doors and framework, assessing the base and waste area, replacing the shower waste, and fitting a new simple shower screen into the existing opening. The installation was completed with fresh mould-resistant silicone, neat finishing caps where required and a full clean-down of the bathroom area.

Scope of Work
  • Removed the existing shower doors, framework and associated fittings from the enclosure.
  • Removed the UPVC tongue-and-groove section from the base where required.
  • Cleared old silicone, debris and loose material from around the shower tray and frame area.
  • Carefully assessed the timber base structure beneath the shower tray for any local repair requirements.
  • Removed the existing shower tray to allow access to the waste section and supporting area.
  • Checked the waste pipework beneath the shower tray after removal of the existing components.
  • Removed the old shower waste and installed a new replacement waste fitting.
  • Fitted new shower doors/screen into the existing opening.
  • Fixed the new screen securely and applied white mould-resistant silicone around required edges.
  • Used white screw caps or cap pins where required to provide a neat finished appearance.
  • Tested the new waste and shower area for leaks following installation.
  • Cleaned the bathroom and removed installation debris on completion.

Challenges & Solutions
  • The existing enclosure had old silicone, staining and worn lower sections β€” these areas were stripped back and cleaned before the new installation.
  • The waste connection required access beneath the shower tray β€” the tray was removed and the waste pipework was assessed before fitting the replacement waste.
  • The timber base structure needed to be checked during the works β€” suitable timber was allowed for local repairs where required.
  • The new screen had to fit neatly into the existing bathroom opening β€” the frame was aligned, secured and sealed with mould-resistant silicone.

Final Outcome

The old shower doors, frame sections and waste fitting were successfully removed and replaced with a new shower screen, fresh sealing and a new waste connection. The bathroom now has a cleaner, more practical shower enclosure with improved operation and a neater finish around the tray and surrounding walls.

The completed works improved the usability and appearance of the shower area while helping reduce the risk of future leaks around the waste and enclosure edges. The bathroom was left clean, tidy and ready for normal use.
