Tree Surgery Works — Cambridge

Project Overview

British Builders carried out approved tree surgery works at a residential property on Brothers Place in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. The works focused on two main areas of concern: one tree applying pressure to the boundary fence and another tree with branches overhanging and making contact with the roof structure.

The garden included mature trees and dense boundary vegetation, with branches extending over the fence line, close to the property and around the roof area. A qualified tree-surgery team attended site to complete controlled reduction, pruning and clearance works while retaining the general structure of the trees where possible.

Scope of Work
  • Inspection of the garden, boundary fence line and roof-adjacent tree branches
  • Identification of tree sections applying pressure to the timber boundary fence
  • Controlled sectional reduction to relieve strain while retaining tree shape
  • Removal of low-level limbs contributing to fence displacement
  • Trimming back of branches making contact with or overhanging the roof
  • Lifting and thinning of canopy areas where required for improved clearance
  • Removal of dead, damaged and unstable branches from the affected trees
  • Restoration of suitable clearance from the roof and boundary structures where possible
  • Chipping and removal of tree arisings and green waste from site
  • Final clean-down of the working area and safety check on completion

Challenges & Solutions
  • Tree pressure on boundary fence — Sections of the tree were carefully reduced and low-level limbs were removed to relieve strain on the fence and reduce the risk of further movement.
  • Branches contacting the roof — Overhanging branches were trimmed back and the canopy was lifted where needed to reduce roof abrasion and prevent future contact.
  • Dense garden boundary vegetation — The work was carried out in controlled sections to maintain safe access, protect the fence line and avoid unnecessary disturbance to surrounding planting.
  • Maintaining tree structure — The trees were reduced selectively rather than heavily cut back, helping retain their overall balance while improving clearance and safety.

Final Outcome

The approved tree surgery works were completed successfully. The tree affecting the boundary fence was reduced and cleared back, helping remove direct pressure from the timber panels and restoring better separation between the vegetation and fence line.

Branches contacting and overhanging the roof were trimmed back to improve clearance and reduce the risk of damage from rubbing, movement or falling deadwood. All tree waste was chipped and removed from site, and the garden area was left clean, tidy and safe on completion.

Client Feedback

“British Builders completed the tree works professionally. The team reduced the overgrown areas, cleared the roof line and left the garden tidy after the work was finished.” – Client
