Bathroom & Kitchen Remedial Works — St Josephs Road, Sheffield
Project Overview
British Builders carried out a coordinated package of remedial works at a property on St Josephs Road, Sheffield, covering the bathroom, bedroom window area and kitchen. The works were arranged to address visible mould, tired painted surfaces, aged sealant and general wear to areas that needed both repair and decorative improvement.
Although some of the issues were localised, the overall job was approached as a broader refresh to improve condition, hygiene and presentation across several connected internal areas. This included replacing the extractor fan, treating mould-affected sections, renewing bathroom sealant, carrying out repairs and sealing around the bedroom window area, and completing preparation and repainting works within the kitchen.
Scope of Work
- Supplied and installed a new extractor fan to improve ventilation within the bathroom area.
- Tested the new fan after installation to confirm proper operation and airflow performance.
- Treated mould-affected bathroom surfaces and cleaned down marked areas before decoration.
- Disinfected affected sections to help reduce the risk of future mould build-up.
- Applied anti-mould primer where required before repainting works were carried out.
- Repainted bathroom surfaces using a moisture-resistant paint for a cleaner and more durable finish.
- Removed old and deteriorated silicone around the bath and prepared the edges for renewal.
- Applied new silicone sealant around the bathtub to achieve a neat watertight finish.
- Carried out repairs to the existing bedroom window area, including cleaning and treatment around the frame.
- Removed mould staining and prepared the window reveal and sill areas for redecoration.
- Repainted the bedroom window section and renewed sealant around the frame where required.
- Cleaned kitchen wall surfaces to remove dirt, grease and general marks before decorating.
- Filled and made good small holes, cracks and surface imperfections in the kitchen walls.
- Sanded prepared areas to create a smoother surface for painting.
- Applied primer where needed and repainted the kitchen walls using paint suitable for kitchen environments.
- Applied multiple coats to achieve an even, refreshed finish across the prepared surfaces.
- Completed a full clean-down and removed debris generated during the remedial works.
Challenges & Solutions
- Mould and staining were present in the bathroom and around the bedroom window area — affected surfaces were cleaned, treated, sealed and repainted as part of the remedial process.
- The bathroom required both functional and decorative improvement — ventilation was upgraded with a new extractor fan while surrounding surfaces were refreshed at the same time.
- Old sealant around the bath had deteriorated — the previous silicone was removed and replaced to improve appearance and maintain a watertight edge.
- Kitchen walls showed general wear, surface marking and preparation patches — the walls were cleaned, filled, sanded and repainted to provide a neater overall finish.
Final Outcome
These remedial works improved several key areas of the property in one coordinated visit. The bathroom was refreshed with mould treatment, repainting, renewed sealant and improved extraction, while the bedroom window area was repaired, resealed and redecorated to a better standard.
In the kitchen, the prepared walls were repainted to create a cleaner and more presentable finish around the cooking and work areas. Once the works were completed, all affected spaces were left clean, tidy and ready for continued use.
